Mountain pass damaged after a truck transporting organophosphate caught alight on Monday morning.

At about 7:00am on Monday morning a report came in of a truck on fire on the mountain pass close to La Petite Ferme. The truck was said to be transporting organophosphate. Emergency services rushed to the scene and the road was closed. Hazmat teams were dispatched to assess the situation due to the dangerous and volatile chemical involved.

The driver was taken to hospital. The truck was apparently completely burnt out.

The road will be reopened at 18:00 today by Provincial Traffic services and motorists are asked to please take caution on the section of the road between la Petite Ferme and the lower bend as it has taken severe damage.
