Sponsor a possible Grand Master

Kusasa-Logo---May-2007I was very pleased and proud to be told that Amanda Nxuthe and Mayizukiswe Rongwana – both learners at Groendal High School – had been selected to play for the Boland Chess Union’s First Teams for Under 16 Girls and Under 20 Boys at the South African Junior Chess Championships (SAJCC) to be held at the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town from 3rd to 10th January 2016. This will be a momentous event with over 2500 young chess players from across the spectrum of diversity that is South Africa.

Amanda and Mayizukiswe began playing chess in my first chess group at Dalubuhle Primary School when they were about 10. After moving on to Groendal High School they still made the trek up the hill to play twice a week at Dalubuhle. Thanks to Kusasa’s support with transport and payment of entry fees, they are now battle hardened veterans of numerous school and other open tournaments. They have also grown from kids to really nice young adults.

The fact that they were selected to play for Boland Chess Union’s First Teams at the SAJCC is testament to their commitment and skill. Having grown up with very few advantages but having shown their potential, the SAJCC is a well-deserved opportunity for them to compete at the highest level for their age groups.

The cost of SAJCC entry fees, Boland Chess Union track suits, hostel accommodation and two meals a day will be i.r.o. R2500 for each of them – £125, €170, $200.

If you can help Amanda and Mayizukiswe to be part of the Boland Chess Union Team at the SAJCC, please consider making a donation of, say, R250, £12.50, €17.00, $20.00 –  more if possible – to Kusasa. Any surplus will be used for chess equipment (particularly much needed clocks), books, programmes, coaching and entry fees etc for chess tournaments. I do hope you can help.

Donations to Kusasa are deductible for tax payers in South Africa, UK, Holland and the USA. Their banking details are below.
