Traffic along the R45 between Groendal and the Franschhoek Municipality came to crawl yesterday morning between 11:am and 12pm, much to the surprise of most residents and tourists – when a group of protesters escorted by law enforcement and local police made their way to the Town Hall.
The protest was peaceful and no incidents were reported with the traffic congestion being the main inconvenience.
A memorandum was said to have been handed over to local DA representative Minie Pieterson, who was asked to stand in for the local Mayor as he was unable to attend.
The concerns of the protesters or the organization they might represent is still unclear at this time. We are currently waiting for feedback regarding this matter and will update you as soon as we have more information.
