We would like to take the opportunity to let you know about our painting event happening in Franschhoek this week (30th March – 2nd April). We will be protectively painting
12 Early childhood development centres (ECDs) with a special fire retardant paint, along with community, local and foreign volunteers and local NGOs.
I have attached a press release outlining The Khusela Ikhaya Project’s ‘responsible tourism’ approach. It have attached it below. I have also attached a one page document we send to all volunteers who wish to attend.
We have hosted a few events recently where the recipe of linking local NGO’S, corporate sponsors and drawing on a variety of volunteers – even looking abroad – seems to be finding traction. These events not only change the lives of people living in informal settlements but volunteers usually leave rewarded too.
Recently we had KLM’s Wings of Support (50+ volunteers) as well as a group of Dutch students paint alongside the NGO HOSA and community members in 7de Laan informal settlement
The upcoming Franshhoek event will see 26 students from Fordham University in New York, a host of Dutch volunteers as well as foreign interns from a local online magazine volunteer their time
over the 4 days. We have also had positive responses from other visitors to SA and volunteers via our events page who wish to paint with us.
We are of course hoping to get Franschhoek locals on board to donate their time also.
We always appreciate any exposure we can get, so we thank you in advance for your efforts.
